Causes of Depression
Unfortunately, we do not know exactly what causes clinical depression. There are a number of factors which can cause depression including (but not limited to):
Biological and genetic factors
Childhood/developmental events
Environmental influences
It is widely believed that no single cause is responsible for causing depression. Some experiences may contribute to depression:
A chaotic or dangerous environment
Abuse/neglect
Biochemical causes
Chronic illness
Diet
Drug or alcohol abuse
Genetic causes
Hormonal imbalances or changes
Lifestyle factors
Loss of social support
Social failure
Stress
Trauma early in life
Unhealthy living conditions
